YouTube brings “Pinch to Zoom” feature for smartphones having 18:9 displays

Bezel-less display, edge-to-edge display or full display design is the most popular smartphone trend of the year. The trend has been started by the Samsung Galaxy S8 series back in March, till now, market consists several smartphones featuring full screen display.

As keeping the trend in mind, YouTube released a new update to their smartphone app. This new update enhances the user experience for the smartphones having 18:9 displays. This updates brings a “Pinch to zoom” for the smartphones using 18:9 or full screen or edge-to-edge display.

Presently, YouTube is using the 16:9 aspect ratio for its every video on the platform. Users using 18:9 displays, users were not been able to utilize the full screen of the smartphone due and black bezel is always visible on the screen due to 16:9 ratio. The update is available for both Android and iOS users.

The new update can be downloaded from the Play Store and App store with the version 12.43 and 12.44 respectively. The app now features a white background and the new logo is placed on the left corner of the screen. The app comes with a separate accounts and library tab, and the navigation panel is placed on the bottom as the change in new design.

YouTube has recently made a bunch of changes including a design refurbish and change in logo. The new logo consist a black text along with the red play icons and the red colour in logo is brighter than the red used previously in logo.

Users are able to speed up or slow down the playback speed of any video as the feature was only limited to the desktop users so far, now platform has released it for the mobile app users as well and it will be found under the settings menu.
