In the business world, once in a while, something big happens that makes heads turn. In certain industries such occasions are rare. One such tectonic shift has been initiated by a fairly new company called “Bonford”. Never have I ever seen such class and sophistication in men’s fashion industry and that too at such affordable rates. I think they’ve really made an achievement here.
What is Bonford?
To put it in simple words, they are luxury leather Shoe Company. Even after being fairly new they’ve been competing head-to-head with the companies already dominating the market. They’ve gained my admiration and the markets’ respect in the short time they’ve been running.
Now I’ll answer the question going through your mind, what’s so good about them? What’s the entire hullabaloo about? And the most important of all should you invest in them?
Take a deep breath and bear with me. I’ll answer every question as we move along.
Who are they? As I said, they’re a new company manufacturing and selling men’s leather shoes. With the motto “go big or go home” they’ve hit big in the Indian shoe market.
What makes them so great? If I’m writing about it them, then there are a lot of things that put them on a pedestal.
Real leather a.k.a top grain leather
There are different kinds of leather available in the market and chances are you’ve been getting the short end of the deal with cheap or faux leather in the name of “genuine” leather. Genuine actually means the leftover part of leather, the one that nobody wants. They combine those leftovers and call it genuine leather. Don’t get me wrong, the source is good; the quality, on the other hand, is not.
Bonford constructs their shoes with a single piece of top grain leather. According to the leather chemist.org, top grain is, “The first cut taken from the grain side of a split hide from which nothing except the hair and associated epidermis has been removed”. Basically, it’s the most expensive kind.
A result of an industrial revolution, Blake stitching is when the upper part of the shoe is wrapped around the insole and stitched to the outsole with a single stitch. I made it complicated, didn’t I?
Simply put, Blake stitch is a single stitch that gives a clean look to the shoe. After a long wear, you can resole it easily. Oh and this makes the shoes extremely flexible.
Handcrafted and painted
The top grain leather is stitched to the cast by exceptionally experienced hands giving them a visible clean look. The coloring is also done by hand.
According to their website, the painting process is quite long with several steps of coloring treatment giving the shoes a smooth marble effect. The edges are also coated with hot wax to waterproof and seal the leather.
The price, I feel has been carefully set keeping the Indian market in mind. We Indians, we wish for the best quality to be as affordable as possible.
Bonford has just done that. As compared to other competing brands, Bonford has managed to sell all that and more at a very reasonable price. I mean where else can you find such craftsmanship and quality at such a good price point.
To answer the final question
Should you buy a Bonford shoe? Isn’t it obvious already? A good leather shoe isn’t an investment you should hesitate to make.
All in all, I believe they’re giving a tough competition to global brands like Tresmode and Louis Philippe. They understand their customer’s needs and have exceptionally tried to help the common man in upgrading his shoe style.
