Google said that the company is going to shut down the consumer version of Google+ (Google Plus) due to a security issue that exposed the data of about 500,000 consumers. This data breach causes the closing of the long-struggling social media platform. The data breach issue was detected in March 2018, but Google did not tell its users about this bug.
Google Plus is launched in 2011 by Google as a competitor of Facebook but due to low usage and engagement company is going to shut down the service for public users. However, the services are still active for its enterprise customers who are using it to communicate with co-workers.
Google found and fixed the bug back in March, but the news is leaked and spreading vastly caused the damage. German privacy controllers in Germany and the US are now planning to take a legal action, and previous SEC authorities are freely hypothesizing about what Google may have fouled up.
