On 21st January 2019, Yamaha launched the new FZ Fi ABS and FZ-S Fi ABS Version 3 in India. The new version of the bikes has a new design and improved ergonomics to give it a trendy muscular look.
The 3rd generation of Yamaha FZ line-up comes with a completely new muscular design and featuring new electronics as well, with an improved design, style, and new features, the bikes got a single channel ABS (anti-lock braking system) as standard.
As we know that the ABS is mandatory from April 1, 2018, in all the bikes having 125 CC or more in India. Everyone was waiting to see ABS in the FZ series of Yamaha in India, and finally, it comes and wait is over. Yamaha has launched the Dual Channel ABS versions of the FZ 25 and the Fazer 25 as well in India.
Here is everything you need to know about the Yamaha’s new 150CC naked bikes.
Completely new design and new electronics
Finally, Yamaha has updated the design of the FZ series, as the people were tired of seeing the same older design every year. Yamaha has introduced some foremost changes in the bikes to keep it significant. The bike now has a muscular fuel tank beefier (like on seen on the FZ 25). The bikes have a completely re-designed headlight with LED lamps on the front. A chrome duct plating on the front looks like an air vent, but it’s placed only to add more beauty in the bike.
The other noticeable changes include an engine cowl and a newly designed midship exhaust. Both bikes got a new LCD instrument cluster with the features like the odometer, fuel gauge, clock, and many more.
New and more comfortable ergonomics
The majority of the changes are to bring a new design with great pricing; Yamaha has really done a great job in new FZ and make it really more comfortable for both the rider and pillion. The handlebar is 22mm taller and bit more close to the rider; it helps reduce the strain on the rider’s shoulder and arms for long distance driving.
The ignition key is now moved to the fuel tank. Also, the bike now has a single unit seat rather having a split-seat and a flatter subframe to add more comfort for the pillion.
Same engine with different tuning
The bikes have the same 149 CC air-cooled, 2 valves, single-cylinder, fuel injected engine seen in the previous version. The engine generates 13.2PS of power at 8000rpm and 12.8Nm of torque at 6000rpm and coupled with a 5-speed gearbox. The competitors like the TVS Apache 160 4V make 15.12PS/13.03Nm and the Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 make 15.5PS/14.6Nm respectively. Yamaha claims that engines in both bikes are now tuned to deliver better low-end performance.
Let’s see how much really the engines are tuned in the test ride video in future.
Single channel ABS
The most significant change is both of the bikes FZ Fi and FZ-S Fi are now come with a single channel ABS as standard. In the previous generations, the FZ-S comes with rear disc brakes.
Now the Yamaha FZ Fi comes equipped with the unit of brakes for enhanced braking performance.
Price and competition
The price of the all-new Yamaha FZ Fi ABS starts at Rs 95,000 and the FZ-S Fi ABS starts at Rs 97,000 (both ex-showroom in Delhi) respectively. The prices are Rs 13,000 and Rs 9000 higher as compared to the previous generation of the bikes.
The Yamaha FZ Fi and FZS Fi compete with the TVS Apache 160 4V (Fi – Rs 92,146 Carburettor – Rs 86,145), Bajaj Pulsar NS160 (Rs 85,690), Suzuki Gixxer (Rs 87,871) and the Honda CB Hornet 160R (Std – Rs 91,682 ABS DLX – Rs 94,182) (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
